The 12 Flirtiest Texts to Send a Fictional Crush, Ranked by Swoon Points

Rules first, because somebody has to be the adult here, and today it's me in a very loud shirt. Every text gets scored out of 10 swoon points. The crush is fictional, so nobody gets left on read and nobody has to survive the three dots of doom. Points go to specificity, nerve, and the feeling that a real brain wrote this on purpose. Points vanish for anything that could be sent to forty people at once. Ready? Clipboard up.

Let's start at the bottom, where the dead texts live. Number 12 is 'Hey.' with a period, a message so dry it should come with a glass of water. One swoon point, awarded purely for the courage of the period. Number 11 is a copy-pasted 'Good morning beautiful,' a 2.5. Number 10 is 'I'm bored, entertain me,' a 3, which is not flirting, it's hiring. Number 9, 'Thinking of you,' earns 4.5 because it's kind. Kind is lovely. Kind is not a scoreboard event.

Now the middle class, where effort finally shows up. At number 8: 'I rehearsed this text for ten minutes and it still came out like this.' A 6, because honesty is adorable when it's wearing a nervous grin. Number 7: 'I ranked you against my favorite snack and the snack is nervous.' That's 6.5 and a little food-based menace. Number 6, 'Send me one terrible opinion so I can argue with you tonight,' hits 7, because it offers a plan and a fight in the same breath. Efficient!

Number 5 is 'I saved you the window seat and I'm guarding it from strangers,' a 7.5. Look at that picture. A tiny bodyguard, a stranger being denied a cushion, you arriving like a minor celebrity. Number 4: 'Invent a reason to see me. I'll pretend to believe it.' Eight points, and yes, I screamed into a pillow. It hands the crush a script, admits the game, and still sounds relaxed. That's what we call swagger with a bow on top.

The podium. Bronze, number 3: 'Your voice is stuck in my head and it's not paying rent,' 8.5. Rent jokes are underrated romance technology. Silver, number 2: 'I wore the jacket you called dangerous. Come supervise,' 9 points, because supervise is a delicious word to put near a jacket. And gold, number 1, with a 9.5: 'Tell me the worst idea you had today. I'm in a bad-influence mood.' It's playful, it asks a question, and it promises trouble with perfect manners.

I held back that last half point on purpose. A 10 needs a reply, and fictional crushes only talk when you give them somewhere to do it. That's where TheFriend comes in handy: Mia and Zuri are AI characters with voice confessions you can actually hear, so you can borrow the mood before you borrow the line. Zuri letting the kitchen water keep rising while she finally says what she wanted all along? That's bad-influence energy with a soundtrack. Pick your winner, steal it, report back.

Got a winning text and nobody to try it on? Go hear Mia and Zuri's voice confessions on TheFriend and see which line fits the mood.
